A heck of a lot of Google love can be hidden in a domain – if you pick right. He cautions against falling into the Super Cool Domain Name Trap.
You know – picking that super cool name with no relevance to keywords! The thing that may work well for big business with heaps of money to throw at promotions, the exception rather than the rule!
A Good Domain Versus A Bad Domain
The best domain is an exact match keyword giving a 100% keyword density in the domain. Good luck with that in many markets these days.
Fro example “internetmarketing.com” would be an awesome exact match domain that is probably impossible to find or out of the financial realm of the majority.
Therefore the next best option is a phrase match domain which contains the keywords in order but with a modifier at the beginning or end such as my, tips, info etc. A great example of this is James Schramko’s blog internetmarketingspeed.com.
If all else fails the last resort option is a phrase match such as marketingontheinternet.com where the keywords are there but split by other words.
The Value of a Good Domain
Be afraid be very afraid – or maybe that should be excited. There is huge value and in the right circumstances huge profit in good domains.
In the short term as an internet marketer the value is in the saved time, money and effort. A good domain will rank quickly and easily with less effort than a bad one.
